Full Moon Garden Hotel 

I recently participated in the Southern MICE Expo 2024 organised by the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau. I flew in several days before the Expo commenced. My Sri Lankan Airlines flight arrived late at night at the Bandaranaike International Airport, after the buses to to central Colombo stopped running, so I decided to find a hotel close to the airport to stay at for my first night in Sri Lanka. 

I learnt that the Full Moon Garden Hotel is a renowned for its hospitality and offers a unique and enchanting experience for its guests. This upscale hotel is situated near the Bandaranaike International Airport, making it an ideal choice for myself as I was seeking comfort and convenience. The Full Moon Garden Hotel is a luxurious haven that offers guests a tranquil and unforgettable experience.

Me and Tuk Tuk

I took a Tuk Tuk the short distance from the airport to the hotel, using the local Pick Me app I had previously installed on my phone in Australia. As I got off the Tuk Tuk and stepped into the hotel's grand lobby, I was greeted by the warm and inviting ambiance of the Full Moon Garden Hotel. The front desk is open 24 hours, so caters for people like me who arrive late at night. The hotel's elegant decor and lush gardens create a serene atmosphere, perfect for relaxation and rejuvenation. 

The hotel's 53 rooms and suites are tastefully designed, offering guests a range of amenities and services that cater to their every need. 

History and Architecture

The Full Moon Garden Hotel has a rich history that dates back to the early 20th century. Originally a colonial-style bungalow, it was converted into a hotel in the 1950s. Over the years, the hotel has undergone several renovations and expansions, blending traditional charm with modern comforts. The hotel's architecture is a fusion of colonial, Sri Lankan, and modern styles, creating a distinctive and captivating ambiance.

Swimming Pools

The Full Moon Garden Hotel boasts an array of amenities. The luxurious rooms and suites with modern amenities are surrounded by lush gardens and a tranquil atmosphere. Arriving late at night I did not have an opportunity to use the large outdoor swimming pool and fitness center, but the pool did look inviting. For those wanting to get down to work, their are conference and event facilities available to use. A spa and wellness center offers traditional Sri Lankan massages and treatments. The hotel also offers laundry facilities, a private parking area and airport and hotel transfers. Children are catered for with a playground and children's pool.

The hotel's rooms and suites are in a variety of types, such as single, double and triple Standard, Deluxe and Super Deluxe Rooms. Each room type offers guests a range of amenities and services, including a private balcony or terrace with stunning views of the surrounding gardens.

My comfortable ground floor room was equipped with Air conditioning, Minibar, Refrigerator, Tea and coffee making facilities, Flat-screen TV, Free Wi-Fi, Private bathroom with plenty of hot and cold water and 24-hour room service

This is where I enjoyed eating my breakfast when I woke up the next morning. Breakfast at Full Moon Garden Hotel is a delightful experience that offers a wide range of options to suit every taste and preference.

The hotel's restaurant serves a buffet-style breakfast that includes: 1. Sri Lankan specialties: - Hoppers (thin, crispy pancakes), String hoppers (steamed rice noodles), Pittu (steamed rice cakes) and Coconut roti (flatbread).
2. International favorites: - Fresh fruits and yogurts, Cereals and muesli, Bread and pastries, Eggs (scrambled, fried, or poached) and Sausages and bacon
3. Beverages: - Tea (Sri Lankan tea, herbal, or green), Coffee (espresso, cappuccino, or latte), Fresh juices (orange, mango, or pineapple), Milk and milkshakes.

The breakfast buffet is served from 6:30 am to 10:30 am, and guests can enjoy their meal in the restaurant or on the terrace overlooking the gardens. In addition to the buffet, the hotel also offers à la carte breakfast options, including:

1. Sri Lankan breakfast dishes: Rice and curry, Hoppers with egg and vegetables, Pittu with coconut milk and jaggery
2. International breakfast dishes: Omelets, Pancakes and waffles and Breakfast sandwiches The hotel's chef is happy to accommodate special dietary requests and preferences, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.
