Abadia Retuerta LeDomaine is in a converted Romanesque Abbey

Abadia Retuerta LeDomaine
The Abadia Retuerta LeDomaine is a striking hotel in a 12th Century converted Romanesque Abbey in Spain’s Duero region.

Located a 2-hour drive from Madrid, this restored abbey is set within 500 acres of vineyards in the Duero Valley and is surrounded by some of Spain’s most prestigious wineries.

Small towns and villages of historic and gastronomic interest are within a short drive and the surrounding countryside and Duero River offer the chance to explore on foot or bike.

The resort has 30 rooms and suites and offers full butler service.

Refectorio, the abbey’s original dining hall, is now a Michelin-starred restaurant of haute cuisine with a Green Michelin Star as well.

There is a range of curated experiences around wine, gastronomy, nature, art and wellness.

The hotel occupies an abbey founded in 1146 by the Premonstratensian Order from France and is one of the most important Romanesque structures in the region.

There were once 600 French Premonstratensian Order monasteries in Europe, but Abadia Retuerta is one of only two that have survived.

It was restored and converted into a hotel by the Swiss-Italian architect Marco Serra and opened in 2012. The building's original use has been respected as far as possible.

The monks’ cells now transformed into spacious rooms that are filled with exquisite pieces of art (including a Miró painting in each room).

Furniture throughout the hotel is a classic contemporary style with soft leather chairs, sumptuous sofas and French oak floors.
