Google honours Ha Long Bay

Google Doodle celebrated Ha Long Bay of Vietnam on the occasion of the 29th anniversary of this scenic site being declared by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage Site (17th December 1994). The Search website Google placed an image of Ha Long Bay on the home page on 17th December 2023.

Google Doodle wrote that Ha Long Bay was formed some 3 million years ago, and is breathtaking seascape in the Gulf of Tonkin of Vietnam, with almost 2,000 islands and islets, and is home to hundreds of different species from fish to monkeys to hawks to frogs. The name Ha Long means dragon descending into the sea. Ha Long Bay is also one of the 7 natural wonders of the world. Ha Long attracts millions of bucket-list visitors each year.

Ha Long Bay has been registered by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage 3 times. After being recognized for the first time in 1994 as having outstanding global value in aesthetic landscape, in 2000, UNESCO continued to register Ha Long Bay as having outstanding global values in geology and geomorphology.

On 16th September, at the 45th session of the World Heritage Committee in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced the new inscription of Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago to the list of World Natural Heritage.
