A new record has been set for the highest-ever number of June quarter nights spent caravanning and camping in NSW.
A total of 1.2 million trips and 4.6 million visitor nights were registered for the June quarter of 2023, up 18 per cent and 32 per cent on the previous year.
The results were announced in the Caravan & Camping Industry Association's caravan and camping performance report for the year ending June 2023.
The data shows there were 4.99 million trips and 19.2 million visitor nights spent in NSW in the year ending June 2023. This signified growth rates of 44 per cent and 50 per cent respectively compared to the previous year. Visitor expenditure grew by 68 per cent to $3.6 billion.
Trip and night figures across age segments grew significantly compared to the year ending June 2022. The over-55 market more than doubled the number of trips over the 12 months ending June 2023, increasing its market share to 34 per cent of total trips.
Compared to the previous year, 900,000 additional intrastate trips were logged, reaching a new high of 3.5 million, or 74 per cent of total trips. Interstate nights have risen as visitation from Victoria and Queensland surges, leading to a larger market share of 33 per cent of total nights, up five points from year ending June 2022.
