The Empire State Building has announced the completion of the third phase of its top-to-bottom reimagined Observatory Experience. The entirely new 102nd floor opening to the public on 12th October (EST), will now provide guests with an entirely unobstructed view of New York City.
Located 381m in the air, the 102nd Floor has been designed to place guests in the centre of Manhattan. Sixteen floors above the renowned 86th Floor Observatory, which sees 4 million visitors annually, the 102nd floor has been under renovations since January 2019. The reinvented 102nd Floor Observatory will now provide impressive, panoramic views of Manhattan and beyond through floor to ceiling glass panels that will offer an unequaled 360-degree view at any time of the year.
The crown jewel of the top-to-bottom reimagined Observatory Experience, the 102nd Floor, will allow guests to explore never-seen-before spaces through a glass-encased elevator. Experiencing breathtaking views before they even reach the 102nd Floor, visitors will catch a glimpse of the innerworkings of the Mooring Mast as they are transported via a glass elevator shaft from the 86th to the 102nd Floor.
Once guests arrive at the reimagined 102nd Floor, they will have the opportunity to stand right at the edge of the World's Most Famous Building and see up to 128km beyond New York City* like never before.
“Located in the center of New York City, our 102nd Floor Observatory provides our guests with the most spectacular views of the city and beyond. We have responded to our customers' desires and aspirations for new experiences and created a state-of-the-art and unique viewing platform, and a special multi-media journey in a glass elevator to the new 102nd Floor,” said Anthony E. Malkin, Chairman and CEO of Empire State Realty Trust. “We are thrilled finally to reveal this to the world.”
Led by experience designer Thinc, with team members Beneville Studios, Corgan, Squint/Opera, Skanska, JLL, Otis, Syska Hennessy, Thornton Tomasetti, The Lighting Practice, Diversified., IDEO, and Kubik Maltbie, phase three follows the recently announced 2nd Floor immersive museum that opened to the public on 29 July 2019.
The re-imagined Observatory aims to deliver to today's traveler an authentic experience with a timeless outlook that is Instagram ready. Its opening re-defines how New York can be viewed and highlights that the Empire State Building has always been a leader in innovation as it reimagines the guest experience and what it means to be an iconic observatory.
