JANMASHTAMI – THE BIRTH OF KRISHNA

Janmashtami marks the birth of Lord Krishna – the beloved deity who is considered to be a warrior, teacher and philosopher by Hindus. While some choose to fast on the day, others celebrate by singing songs in praise of Krishna and cooking his favourite dishes at home. Temples come alive with Krishna worship as little idols of the Lord in his childhood are placed inside cradles and rocked gently to the chant of religious hymns and mantras.

What’s Special:
This year, the holy city of Mathura is set to host grand Janmashtami celebrations for eight straight days. A mega cultural event will take place with international artists from countries such as Indonesia and Malaysia, as well as a reported 1000 folk artists coming in from Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Gujarat, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. The event is expected to attract a large number of tourists.
