Boutique Melbourne-based publishing agency Grin Creative has been named a finalist in Australia and New Zealand's most respected media and marketing awards, the Mumbrella Publish Awards.
Grin is one of four companies to make the finals in the Publishing Company of the Year – Small category. It has also been nominated in the Launch/Relaunch of the Year for the first three issues of Luxury Escapes Magazine.
Founded by publisher Justin Jamieson 22 years ago, Grin Creative's first publication was the 100-page glossy monthly SAIN Magazine for Sanity Music. The magazine bug bit, as had the travel bug, and so Jamieson launched the company's own adventure travel magazine get lost. Since then it has taken on a number of client publications, including Zooper for Zoos Victoria, Centre News for the Jewish Holocaust Centre, Fernwood for Fernwood Fitness, Avalon | Inbound Outbound for Avalon Airport, and National Geographic Traveller for Adventure World Travel, among many others. The company has also exploited its years of experience in the travel and publishing spaces to create a series of one-off publications for clients like Swiss Tourism, My Adventure Store and South Africa Tourism.
Late last year Grin Creative took the bold move of launching a luxury travel magazine in a market where many publications are being shut down.
In a rare move, Jamieson forged a partnership with travel company Luxury Escapes to create a new title. Rather than creating a custom publication for the company, Grin would share Luxury Escapes' branding and distribution to ensure the magazine's success.
“It's certainly been a unique proposition for people in regards to the relationship, but we see this as a win-win for both sides,” Jamieson said. “We have credible, independent editorial that positions Luxury Escapes as the leader in this space, and they have a quality product with high editorial integrity to share with platinum members.
“These awards are increasingly important in that they recognise the smaller innovators who are prepared to put their necks out to ensure growth in the publishing sector when most are saying print is dead.”
Winners will be announced at a gala dinner in Sydney on 19 September.
