WE THOUGHT ICE CREAM IN SAN FRANCISCO COULDN'T GET ANY BETTER. WE WERE WRONG. SALT & STRAW IS COMING.

Salt & Straw is officially coming to San Francisco. The Portland-based creamery has secured a space in the Fillmore neighborhood with plans to open up a second location in Hayes Valley shortly thereafter. We welcome their flavors, Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper and Arbequina Olive Oil with open arms. Now before you go all "not in my backyard," here's why this is fantastic news for all ice cream lovers:
  • Kim and Tyler Malek, owner and chef, were attracted to San Francisco because of the local and seasonal ethos it shares with Portland. Tyler has been quoted: “For me as a chef, San Francisco is one of the greatest food cities in the entire world.”
  • They plan to create San Francisco-inspired flavors, as well as bring standbys like the ones we named above.
  • In true San Francisco fashion, all Salt & Straw locations in San Francisco will benefit local schools.
  • It makes everyone better! Competition is healthy and we can't wait to see how every other creamery responds. Yes, we're looking at you Bi-Rite, Humphry Slocombe and Mr. & Mrs. Miscellaneous.

So get ready, ice cream lovers. It's time to celebrate with a scoop (or two).
