Toyota Country Music Festival Tamworth Festival Director shares his tips for 2017

The annual Toyota Country Music Festival Tamworth will take over Australia's capital of Country from 20 January - 29 January 2017. Rated as Australia's largest music festival, and one of the top 10 in the world, the event attracts around 50,000 visitors per day, with more than 700 artists who perform in 2800 scheduled events across 80 venues. Festival Director Barry Harley shares his tips and tricks for navigating the 2017 festival.

In a few sentences, how would you describe the Toyota Country Music Festival Tamworth?

It's the most unique music festival in the world, featuring a variety of music. In addition to the incredible music program, the event is budget friendly, making it perfect for families. In fact, 80 per cent of the events are free and feature some of the biggest names in Australian country music.

What advice would you give to first time festival-goers?

Pace yourself throughout the festival. There are so many amazing performers to see. The amount of incredible entertainment will keep you busy morning to night.

What is your favourite event at the festival?

It's too hard to pick just one as there are so many amazing events taking place. It's very special to see emerging bands and artists before they become household names. The Golden Guitars, which celebrates the success of Australian country music artists, is another highlight.

Are there any up and coming artists you would recommend seeing during the festival?

There are too many artists to list them all, but young bands like Hurricane Fall, individuals like Caitlyn Shadbolt, mature acts like Bennett, Bowtell and Urquhart are definitely worth seeking out during the festival.
