In particular, I love the beautiful snow statues placed along the Sapporo Odori Park Avenue that stretches for 1.5 kilometers. They come in big and small sizes, and make great pictures too! They look especially photogenic in the evening, when they’re lighted up from sunset to 10pm!
The statues take on different appearances based on the year’s current trends. For example, a snow statue with an “Attack on Titan” theme appeared this year! A word of advice: do bring along your winter clothing, as Sapporo can get very cold in February.
2月早めに札幌を訪れるなら絶対に見るべきお祭りが“さっぽろ雪まつり”2月上旬から中旬にかけて行われる、とても巨大な雪まつりです。
現在では国内外から200万人以上の参加者を集める巨大イベント。大通り公園沿い1.5kmに渡り大小さまざまな雪像が並び、札幌の冬を盛り上げます。とにかく全ての雪像がフォトジェニックなので、写真を撮影するだけでもとても楽しいです！
毎年作られる雪像は違うのですが、その時々の人気コンテンツ、旬の人が雪像化されるので日本のトレンドが視覚的に分かると思います。例えば2016年には「進撃の巨人 Attack on Titan」の雪像が披露されました。
また、日没から10時頃まではライトアップもされます。なので、昼と夜で違うように見える雪像を楽しむこともこのお祭りの楽しみ方の1つ。
札幌の2月は非常に寒いので防寒対策はしっかりして、ぜひ楽しんでください。
