It's exciting times for Host Unusual, who are busy celebrating their 6 month anniversary today. The unusual accommodation directory has marked the occasion with a series of book giveaways to its followers on Facebook, to also coincide with the start of advent.
Each week in December Host Unusual users can enter an easy competition to win one of the 'My Cool...' book series. Kick-startng with 'My Cool Treehouse', followers simply have to comment on the post, stating their most unusual gift ever received, like and share the page to be in with a chance of winning. The competition will vary each week during the lead-up to Christmas. Dawn Crawford explains a little more about their take on social media marketing:
"We've always believed in the power of social media marketing as well as traditional SEO, particularly with such a niche angle as we have at Host Unusual. The scope for interesting posts, shares, new property announcements and interaction with people is immense. We also like to run competitions as we find people really like to engage in a fun way. Only recently we ran a competition to describe the 'Great British Weather' in four words; post reach levels were unprecedented! It also helped to raise awareness of us and we saw our traffic from Facebook rise during that period as a result."
Having doubled its property portfolio over the past 3 months, the company has also seen a drastic rise in web visits and followers. Co-founders Dawn Crawford and Alex Wilson have many plans for the website in 2017 to ensure this continues, including new partnerships with rental agencies to promote their most unique properties, extra features planned for property owners to maximise and manage their listings, and new categories and inspiration tags. The most recent of these is a new 'As Seen on TV' tag, as Host Unusual inevitably have many properties that have featured on programmes such as 'Amazing Spaces', 'Four in a Bed', 'Grand Designs' and 'Shed of the Year'.
