On Sunday 30 October 2016 the Royal Caribbean mega liner "Radiance of the Seas" will be making her maiden visit to Wollongong, bringing 2,400 visitors.
Destination Wollongong will host a welcome event in Lang Park on the morning of the arrival to showcase the wonderful things that make the South Coast an amazing place to visit.
The event will include everything from art and crafts to food and wine, entertainment and visitor information services.
This represents a unique and significant opportunity for Wollongong to make a strong first impression on the rapidly expanding cruise industry and roll out the red carpet with the intent of paving the way for future cruise ship visitation.
DW / IRT Ambassador Program to welcome cruise passengers
When passengers on the Royal Caribbean cruise ship "Radiance of the Seas" disembark in Port Kembla in October, they can expect to be greeted by friendly ambassadors touting the array of opportunities available in the region.
In an initiative that aims to recreate the spirit and passion of community welcome that imbued the Sydney Olympics, the Illawarra plan is set to showcase both the beauty and friendliness of the region.
The Wollongong ambassadors will be a highly visible and roaming source of information for the 2,400 passengers expected to come ashore to explore the city and its surrounds.
The aim is to engage visitors by sharing great stories of the city and its development and showcasing the passion our residents feel towards the region. As part of that ideology, Destination Wollongong and IRT are joining forces to build a dynamic team of volunteers with the ability to share their pride in the city and inspire visitors to get the most from their visit.
