Australia’s Greatest Boats coming to Fraser Coast

The Whittley Sea Legend coming
 to Australia’s Greatest Boats
The Fraser Coast will be transformed into a boaties’ paradise this month with Australia’s best fishing boats being assessed for recognition as the nation’s finest on the market.

In a major publicity coup for the region, iconic boating publication Trade-A-Boat brings its annual Australia’s Greatest Boats 2017 event to Urangan in Hervey Bay from October 25-27.

Trade-A-Boat editor Tim Van Duyl said Hervey Bay would be the ideal testing ground for the most sought-after trailer boats available for anglers today.

“The idea behind Australia’s Greatest Boats is an exciting and simple one. Once a year we look back on the dozens of trailer boat reviews we’ve done over the previous 12 months. Those boats that scored the best have been invited to the Fraser Coast, where they will be re-tested by our judges.

“Regarded as one of Australia’s leading boating and fishing hot spots, Hervey Bay is the perfect venue to push these boats to their limits and see who gets the ultimate bragging rights,’’ Mr Van Duyl said.

Fighting it out in their respective categories of Best Fibreglass and Best Aluminium Fishing Boat will be the cream of the crop including the Stabicraft 2400 Supercab, Surtees 700 Game Fisher, Mako 284 CC, Seafox 288 Commander, Stessco 490 Renegade, Anglapro 514 Sniper Pro, Tracker V-175 SC, Haines Hunter 565R, Caribbean 2400 and Whittley Sea Legend 22. This year’s event is presented by RAM.

Jenny Wood from Fraser Lodge Holiday Park, who is hosting the entrants said Australia’s Greatest Boats had generated enormous interest.

“Bookings are very strong and there is a real excitement in the town with the big hitters in the boating industry set to converge, providing a great spectacle for boating and fishing lovers,’’ she said.

Fraser Coast local and Shimano pro angler Scott Mitchell said the event would help strengthen the region’s reputation as a fishing and boating paradise.

“Landing this prestigious event on the Fraser Coast is a big thumbs-up for the region which continues to grow in stature as a world class recreational fishing and boating destination,’’ he said.

Acting General Manager for Fraser Coast Tourism and Events, Bradley Nardi, said Australia’s Greatest Boats would provide excellent exposure for the region through Trade-A-Boat’s Bauer Media Group.

“The Bauer Media Group is a fantastic partner for us to be working with and we are excited to see not just the event in October, but the ongoing publicity and awareness that this will drive for the Fraser Coast.

“Crowning Australia’s Greatest Boat in Australia’s leading fishing and boating destination certainly makes sense to us” Mr Nardi said.

Despite much of the action of the Australia’s Greatest Boat initiative taking place on the water with a rigorous testing schedule, the public will have a chance to view the boats on Wednesday October 26th at the Urangan Boat Ramp from 11:00am to 2:00pm.

“The Australia’s Greatest Boat event provides a stunning showcase for boating and fishing enthusiasts and we are looking forward to giving the public a close look at the competing vessels.

“We do need to thank Bauer and RAM as well as the Fraser Lodge Holiday Park and Hervey Bay RSL Club for partnering with us and making this initiative possible” Mr Nardi said.
