Sample local and international vintage Rieslings, devour fresh flavours on a roving degustation or sit back to soak up some tunes. This spring, enter a food and wine paradise in Canberra as you explore these wonderful events with friends.

Taste a fine Riesling

15 October
Winemakers and growers from the Canberra District, across Australia and overseas are bringing their best Rieslings to Canberra for the Canberra International Riesling Challenge. Riesling producers will compete with over 500 other Rieslings for the Best Wine of the Challenge Trophy.

Canberra District Rieslings will also compete for the ACT Chief Minister's Trophy.

Riesling is an extremely versatile grape capable of producing world-class wines in all styles from bone dry to sparkling to intensely sweet.

You can come along to sample arguably the world's favourite grape at the ActewAGL Trade and Consumer Tasting Day on Saturday October 15, 11am until 3pm at the Albert Hall in Canberra. Entry fee is $45 and includes a souvenir Riedel tasting glass and a copy of the official CIRC Results Catalogue.

There are few wine events of this type open to the public, so if you've got a taste for fine wine, come and get an appreciation for Riesling.

Uncover a festival of flavours

29–30 October
The inaugural Festival of Flavour is a celebration of the diverse flavours that we enjoy in our region. It will showcase delicious local food, wine, beer and ciders from Murrumbateman, the Eurobodalla, the Snowy Mountains, Young and Goulburn. Plus, it will feature music and performances, and cooking demonstrations by local chefs.

A variety of wineries from the region will be at the festival, bringing some of their proudest drops, and many fine dining, eateries and restaurants will also tempt your tastebuds. You can sample the flavours and purchase your favourites, all in the one place.

One of the highlights will be the Saturday night VIP Long Table Banquet where you can enjoy an evening of amazing food and wines, complete with entertainment and gifts.

You'll find the Festival of Flavour at Murrumbateman Recreation Ground on the Barton Highway, about 30 minutes' drive from Canberra from 10am–7pm on the Saturday and 10am–4pm on the Sunday.

Adult tickets for either Saturday or Sunday are $10, or $16.50 with a tasting glass. Children aged 12–18 years are $5. Children under 12 years of age are free. Saturday's VIP Banquet is $150. Book your tickets online.

Pop into the laneway

18–19 November
Be surprised by what lies just around the corner as you join other explorers in the laneway.

Tucked into the city centre's Tocumwal Lane, you'll find Food and Wine in the Laneway, a pop-up selection of some of the Canberra District's best cuisines and cool climate wines. Sample the wares and soak up the funky vibe, set to the backdrop of superhero wall art.

An entry fee of $20 includes a souvenir tasting glass and sample tastings from the participating wineries.
