As the world premiere of Dream Lover: The Bobby Darin Musical gets set to open exclusively in Sydney, star performer and Sydneysider David Campbell has revealed his favourite local spots and gems when touring Regional NSW.
If you could take Bobby Darin to one spot in NSW, where would it be? “Bobby would have to sing on the forecourt of the Sydney Opera House at sunset. I’d like to see him there with a big swing band and some great dancers.”
Favourite NSW getaway: “The Southern Highlands are gorgeous and my family has a place in Berrima. Kim’s Beachside Retreat on the Central Coast is spectacular and I was lucky enough to visit Emirates One & Only Wolgan Valley in the Blue Mountains, which was amazing. I get to see a lot of the State when touring – Albury and Wagga Wagga are also great. There’s always something on in these towns.”
Best Coffee: “I love taking friends to Zinc on Macleay Street, Potts Point. If I’m looking for something quirky, nearby Coffee, Tea & Me has great coffee and spelt cookies.”
Special- occasion dinner: “I’ve recently gone vegetarian so the degustation at Yellow, Potts Point, is fantastic. You won’t believe what they can do with a radish nowadays!”
Entertainment fix: “I have to say the Hayes Theatre in Potts Point. We’re doing some of the most exciting stuff for mid-size, affordable musical theatre - outside of the big guys of course.”
Chill out spot: I have a young family so we love heading outdoors to Centennial Park, Rushcutters Bay and Beare Park in Elizabeth Bay.”
City secrets: “For me, the only way to really see a city is to walk or run through it. I start at Woolloomooloo, run past the Art Gallery of NSW, along to Darling Harbour and George St, until I eventually loop back through the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, where I take a selfie so everyone knows I’ve gone for a nice long run.”
