Bathurst to Host 2016 BMX National Championships

The NSW Government is investing in the 2016 BMX National Championships to be held in Bathurst in March 2016, attracting thousands of visitors and showcasing the region to a global audience.
Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events and Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres said the event will take place at the newly constructed Bathurst Bike Park.
“This is fantastic news for the Bathurst region and we are delighted to be supporting the 2016 event through our tourism and major events agency Destination NSW,” Mr Ayres said.
"The Championships will provide a huge boost to the local visitor economy, with more than 2,000 domestic and international visitors expected to travel to Bathurst for the event, with a total visitor spend of $1.2 million.
“Held over six days, the BMX National Championships will see hundreds of riders of all ages competing across a range of categories. BMX is growing in popularity each year and I look forward to seeing some fierce competition when the Championships come to Bathurst in a few weeks.”
Member for Bathurst Paul Toole said he was delighted the event would be held in the region and the venue was perfect for BMX riding and competition.
“With such diverse landscape and terrain the Bathurst area is the ideal host for the BMX National Championships. The new Bathurst Bike Park will provide a challenging course for the riders, and there are plenty of tracks around the region for the competitors to practice on before the event,” Mr Toole said.
“Events like the BMX National Championships are great for our local visitor economy, providing an influx of tourists for our hotels, restaurants, businesses and attractions. It will also be streamed live on the BMX Australia website, showcasing Bathurst to a global audience of over 160,000.”
The 2016 BMX National Championships will be held from 1 – 6 March.
