Junior Indoor Cricket Championships Coming to Dubbo

Another major event is coming to Regional NSW. The 2016 National Junior Indoor Cricket Championships will be held in Dubbo, the first time the event has ever been held in a regional location.

Deputy Premier and Member for Dubbo Troy Grant and Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events and Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres welcomed the winning bid, which is expected to deliver more than $500,000 to the region in visitor expenditure.

Mr Grant said the event would be a great showcase of youth sporting talent and provide a boost for the local Dubbo economy.

“This is the first time the Championships will be played in a regional location, and I am thrilled the NSW Government has worked with Dubbo City Council and Cricket Australia to bring the event to the area. With more than 500 visitors expected to attend, it will provide a welcome boost to local hotels, restaurants and attractions,” Mr Grant said.

“Dubbo is well suited to hosting major events such as the National Junior Indoor Cricket Championships, with top-class sporting facilities and accommodation. The Championships will also help promote Dubbo as a holiday destination, with the event receiving widespread national coverage.”

Mr Ayres said the event will attract more than 30 teams across six divisions, and continues the Government's success in attracting major events to regional areas.

“The National Indoor Cricket Championships will be held from 1-6 July 2016 at Dubbo Sportsworld, and will attract teams from across the country to Regional NSW,” Mr Ayres said.

“The Championships join a long list of major events secured by the NSW Government for Regional NSW, which this year includes events such as the Touch Football World Cup in Coffs Harbour, Ironman Port Macquarie, Australian Little League Baseball Championships in Lismore, XTERRA in Jervis Bay and many more.”
