Vanuatu Celebrates 35 Years of Independence

Vanuatu
The South Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) conveys its congratulations to the government and people of Vanuatu on the 35th anniversary of the island nation's independence.

SPTO Chief Executive Ilisoni Vuidreketi stated: “We convey our hearty congratulations to the people of Vanuatu for 35 successful years as a nation. 2015 has been a particularly trying year for Vanuatu in the aftermath of Cyclone Pam; however the resilience shown by the ni-Vanuatuans is testament to the core of nationhood and pride of the people of Vanuatu and is a truly admirable trait.”

“We wish you all the best in your celebrations and we look forward to continuing to work with our Vanuatu tourism counter parts to develop and market Pacific tourism to the world. The steady growth of 1.8 percent over the last five years in visitor arrivals ensures exciting work ahead for SPTO and the Vanuatu Tourism Office”, Mr. Vuidreketi added.

Mr. Vuidreketi also expressed his sorrow at the passing of the former Vanuatu Prime Minister, Edward Natapei.

“Vanuatu has lost a committed and great leader and we offer our sincere condolences to Mr. Natapei's family, the people and government of Vanuatu”, Mr. Vuidreketi added.
