Winter in the Highlands ...

Winter in the Highlands
Winter is well and truly here and actually, it doesn’t feel so bad. The frosts so far have been light and mostly the days clear and sunny. Which is not to say we haven’t had the fires on, oh no the fires in both the San Fior Room and Harvey’s have been getting a work out and our guests have been able to while away a few hours relaxing in their glow.

Winter is a great time to visit the Highlands, there truly is something for everyone. Let’s start with the foodies shall we? Throughout winter Yelverton Truffles open their gates for regular truffle hunts, a great way to forage for truffles and spend some time in the glorious ‘green heart’ of the Highlands, Robertson. If the kids are into cooking (or you’d like them to be) why not book them into a day of cooking fun at Cookability, their school holiday program is a great way to introduce kids to kitchen capers. If the art scene is more your thing then there are some fantastic exhibitions on, Gallery Ecosse in Exeter is featuring photographer David Ryrie, the Milk Factory Gallery in Bowral has an exhibition of Hank Spireks’ work, while the Sturt Gallery has a contemporary weaving exhibition as well as their regular Sturt Winter School. The Southern Highlands Writers Festival is on from July 10 to 12 and features an incredible line-up of author talks, a film premiere and a literary dinner at Eschalot Restaurant in Berrima. And, of course throughout July you can barely move for a Christmas in July event, the best of which (besides our own) has to be Bundanoon Winterfest from June 26 to July 7.

With school holidays almost upon us it’s a great time to remind you about our Winter Retreatpackages. Starting from just $449 for two nights (during school holidays kids stay and eat free) the package includes; breakfast, 18 holes of golf, free golf clinics for kids, High Tea, 2 x $65 day spa vouchers, discount vouchers to the Illawarra Fly Treetop Walk and the Bradman Museum plus a wine and cheese tasting session at a local winery! Click here for more information.

There is so much to do in the Southern Highlands we encourage you to take a few days off and have a midweek retreat with us, enjoy all of the local cultural events and activities or get into the great outdoors and explore some of our bushwalks and bike tracks. Sometimes you don’t need to go very far to get away from it all and the Southern Highlands is a great place to start.

Although we are still very much in winter, we are turning our mind to spring and how we can create something special for our guests. We’re dreaming up some great Spring Break packages, one of which we’d love some feedback on. Our new Spring Health Break package is designed to restore balance to your life and kick start your health and fitness regime. We’ll be offering; daily yoga and meditation sessions, an exclusive menu, massage sessions, guided bushwalks, wellness seminars and Highlands produce workshops. It’s a structured stay in that we’ll be offering a daily program of activities which you can participate in as much or as little as you like. We’ve prepared a small survey, if you’ve got five minutes we’d love some feedback. Those who complete the survey and then take up our Spring Health Break package will receive a complimentary Apelles Gift Box on check in.

There’s so much to do right now in the Highlands, there’s actually not much time for lazing the day away in front of a roaring open fire!
