Hydro Majestic Hotel Back in Spectacular Style

Hydro Majestic Hotel
Nearly six years in the making, Escarpment Group has unveiled its exquisite refurbishment of one of the truly iconic hotels of the world, the Hydro Majestic Hotel at Medlow Bath in the Blue Mountains.

Five exclusive high tea events in the spectacular Casino Lobby and luxurious Wintergarden set the tone of elegance for the first guests after the official re-launch by NSW Premier Mike Baird in October 2014.

The stylish Delmonte conference and dining rooms are available for up to 50 people, the Boiler House CafĂ© and bistro is great for casual dining, while the famous Shanghai chic Salon Du The and sumptuous Cat’s Alley bar/gin palace offer decadent spaces for jazz and martinis at sunset.

One of the grandest ballrooms in Australia, the Majestic Ballroom boasts vaulted ceilings, open fireplaces and the glamour of yesteryear for weddings and formal events.

A new addition to the Hydro Majestic property is the providores pavilion showcasing quality regional gourmet food and wine and interpretive history displays.

Also new will be the Majestic Point Lookout, picnic and market grounds, providing public access to the best views of the Megalong Valley, perfect for picnics, markets, wine fairs, music and the lost art of public promenading.

Escarpment Group general manager Ralf Bruegger said: ``The Hydro Majestic is one of those rare hotels that is a true global icon. In a way, it belongs to the people of Australia because everyone from everyday people to celebrities and prime ministers has a story to tell about staying here.’’

Since October, the Hydro has hosted many events which have re-launched original owner Mark Foy’s `Palace in the Wilderness’’ as the place to be for fun in the Blue Mountains.

`The Hydro was one of the original grand hotels in Australia’s first tourist destination, the Blue Mountains, so we had an obligation to deliver an authentic interpretation of Mark Foy’s vision, not just another nice but characterless hotel,’’ Mr Bruegger said.

Foy was a visionary, an ambitious and remarkable one, creating the hotel on a mountain top against all odds. Soon the fortunate, the famous, the fabulous, even the infamous, flocked to the Hydro Majestic from around the globe.

The Escarpment Group re-opened the Hydro Majestic with the same confidence.

Architect Ashkan Mostaghim of Mostaghim & Assoc created the revised formula for the site while Peter Reeve and the team at CRD produced luxurious new and historically-inspired interiors and furnishings which reference the past and fold into the present using bespoke design to interpret the many periods of the hotels history.
