Luna Park Main Entrance |
Luna Park celebrated its Centenary on December 13th
2012. Luna Park is a unique amusement Park located in St Kilda, the
bayside suburb in Melbourne, the capital city of Victoria in Australia.
It was on December 13th 1912 that Mr Moon opened the giant mouth and
22,319 of people flocked in. That night
80,000 lights were turned on for the
first time. Children, young people, adults and families have been going
to Luna Park for fun ever since.

Body Rock |
Many years ago I lived in Melbourne and as a Youth
Worker took many groups of young people to Luna Park for enjoyable
outings as a part of school holiday programs I helped organise. I now
live in NSW and have not been back to Melbourne for many years. Recently
I went back to Melbourne for a few days and I made it a point to return
to Luna Park to see how it had changed over the years.

Spider, Enterprise, Scenic Railway |
Luna Park Melbourne has rides and attractions that
have delighted Melbourne families for generations. It was good to see
that several heritage listed attractions have been
restored and some brand new thrill rides have been added since I was
last there.
Luna Park has rides the whole family can
enjoy, from friendly carousels to thrilling roller coasters. Even though
I did not go on all the rides, I went on most of them. It has super
thrill rides like the
Pharaoh's Curse and the Enterprise and exhilarating rides like the
Spider, Twin Dragon and Coney Island Top Drop. There are plenty of rides
that the whole family
can enjoy, such as the Ghost Train, Dodgem Cars, Silly Serpent, Scenic
Railway,
Carousel, Mirror Maze and Red Baron.

Scenic Railway |
My
highlight of Luna Park was my ride on the Scenic Railway Roller Coaster. This is a
large wooden coaster
that projects its passengers, at high speed,
around the outside of the entire Park. It dips and turns and provides
stunning views of Port Phillip Bay and St. Kilda. Two facts that I have
only just learnt about the Scenic Railway Roller Coaster is that it
boasts the title of
being the oldest continually operating wooden
roller coaster in the world and the only one of its kind with a
standing brakeman in control aboard its moving
carriages.

The Diner |
A variety of snack, food and drink options are available at Luna Park.
A
visit to Luna park is a must-do for any visitor to Melbourne. It is
only a short tram ride from the Melbourne CBD. Tickets can be purchased
for children, adults, families
and groups, either as individual ride tickets or as unlimited tickets.
They can be purchased online or at Luna Park.

Carousel |
People can learn more about Luna Park by purchasing a
book
detailing its colourful history lauched for
its Centennary. The book gives information about the Park creators, the
