Great Keppel Island

New Luxury Great Barrier Reef Island Resort in the works

Development on a new AUD$600 million luxury resort on the Great Barrier Reef has just been approved on Great Keppel Island. The planned resort includes a 250 room hotel, 750 villas, 600 apartments, a 250-berth marina and a Greg Norman-designed golf course. Great Keppel Island is located just off the Queensland coast and boasts 17 white sandy beaches and hard coral reefs with direct access off the island. The first stage of the Great Keppel Island eco-tourism resort will include a hotel, marina and airstrip. Tower Holdings plans to commence construction next year, with the first stage opening in late 2015, early 2016.

Shine bright with Queensland's first active lighthouse tour

A new tour will give a first-hand insight into what a working lighthouse looks like on the inside. Lady Musgrave Cruises

Heron Island Great Barrier Reef Swim

In its third year, the Great Barrier Reef Swim will be held from 10-14 October, 2013. The event, held in partnership with Oceanswims.com, involves a competitive swim around the island for a distance of approximately 3km and also shorter course options. There is also a swim clinic and a range of social events as well. Heron Island will close in 2013 from early May to mid-June for a scheduled maintenance program. www.heronisland.com
