Shangri La Hotel Bangkok’s Own Hidden Sanctuary - Chi Spa

Enter a sanctuary where relaxation transcends time. Where the mind and body are at peace in a world of tranquility. Chi Spa, the Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok’s signature spa is an escape from the busy streets of Bangkok where one can unwind in traditional, first class comfort.

From the moment one enters, the hospitality and genuine willingness of the staff to assist and make one feel like royalty are clear. Welcome tea and a comfortable seat are offered to decide on a treatment. After choosing the 1 hour 45 minute hot stone massage from recommendation, I was taken to a private room to change, then have my feet washed, cleansed and dried. As heavenly as this was, it was time to move to the massage bed and allow myself to truly become part of this experience.

Beginning with a full body massage to warm up the muscles, I was already feeling unbelievably relaxed before the hot stones were then used to massage my body. Gently at my request, every effort was taken to ensure I was comfortable and at ease. This is when time seemed to stop. The combination of the relaxation music, touch and pressure of the hot stones resulted in a breathtakingly calmed body and state of mind, where years could have passed with each minute unbeknown to myself.

Finishing by placing the hot stones on my body whilst my head and neck were massaged, I had forgotten all reality. However it was time to finish, change, and again be escorted to be welcomed back with tea and an offering to stay as long as I like in the waiting area until ready to leave. Undoubtedly, I had to re-enter normal life. However, ultimately feeling an unimaginable calmness in the busy city.
