A record number of participants will pound the bitumen as part of the 9th annual Great Ocean Road Marathon, including four-time Olympian Craig Mottram.
More than 5,000 people have registered for the weekend's events with 1,150 taking on the 45km marathon course and 2,670 participating in the half marathon.
One of Australia's most decorated marathon runners Steve Moneghetti is also competing, however due to injury will only be tackling the 14km event.
During the event the Great Ocean Road will be closed to vehicles so competitors and spectators can enjoy the region's scenery completely uninterrupted.
Event Director John Craven says he is delighted with the record numbers and is hoping for fine weather for what is described as the world's most spiritual running event.
"Most other great marathons around the world are run among buildings and skyscrapers such as Boston, London and Tokyo, but here, competitors are surrounded by the beauty of the Great Ocean Road landscape, so we are hoping for clear skies."
The Great Ocean Road Marathon includes a marathon, half marathon, 14km, 6km, 14km wheelchair and kids' gallop event.
