Rising Popularity of Cross-Border Tourism

Cross-border tourism between Vietnam and China has seen remarkable growth in 2025, with a significant surge in visitors during the summer season. According to Chinese statistics, the Youyi Guan (Friendship Pass) border gate welcomed 61,800 outbound tourists in the first seven months of 2025, marking an impressive 85.31% increase compared to the same period last year. This surge reflects the rising demand for cultural exchange, unique experiences, and easy accessibility between the two neighboring countries.

Puzhai Scenic Site Opens as New Attraction

The recently inaugurated Puzhai scenic site in Pingxiang city, Guangxi province, has quickly become a highlight of the region’s summer tourism scene. Designed to showcase natural beauty and border culture, the attraction strengthens Pingxiang’s role as a key gateway for travelers entering Vietnam. Huang Jianxiong, a local tourism official, emphasized that the city has continuously leveraged its border advantages to develop diverse cultural and tourism experiences.

Unique Cross-Border Travel Experiences

At the heart of this cooperation is the Youyi Guan Scenic Area, which has launched high-quality one-day and two-day tours connecting Pingxiang with Vietnam’s Lang Son province. The simplified travel process allows Chinese tourists to use their citizen identity cards to complete exit procedures, making it easier than ever to explore Lang Son. Visitors can immerse themselves in local customs and enjoy authentic Vietnamese cuisine, including spring rolls and traditional filter coffee.

In addition to cultural sightseeing, Pingxiang has expanded its tourism portfolio with outdoor camping options and self-driving tours across the border. These fresh experiences have broadened the appeal of the region for independent travelers and families seeking flexible itineraries.

Expanding Long-Haul Tours into Vietnam

Collaboration between Pingxiang and Vietnamese travel companies has also resulted in the development of longer tours. One highlight is a new 15-day, 14-night journey across southern Vietnam, designed to meet the growing demand for in-depth exploration. By offering extended itineraries, both sides are creating opportunities for visitors to experience Vietnam’s rich cultural heritage, dynamic cities, and diverse landscapes.

Impressive Growth and Future Outlook

Pingxiang has recorded strong tourism numbers, with 2.48 million cross-border tourist arrivals last year alone. The consistent growth reflects how both China and Vietnam are successfully diversifying their tourism products to meet evolving traveler expectations. With new attractions like the Puzhai scenic site, simplified border procedures, and cross-border tour innovations, the region is positioning itself as a leading hub for international tourism in Southeast Asia.
