Sri Lanka’s ETA System Returns: Your Seamless Gateway to Paradise

Visa on the Horizon for Global Travelers

Sri Lanka has officially reactivated its much-anticipated Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system, bringing welcome news for international travelers planning a visit to this island paradise. Tourists can now apply for a 30-day visa using the familiar, streamlined online platform, restoring ease and confidence to the planning process.

With the system now back online, applying for a short-term stay is as convenient as ever. Whether you're here to explore ancient ruins, relax on golden beaches, or journey through lush tea country, the path is now clear—and digital.

A Streamlined Process with Global Accessibility

The reactivation of the ETA system means travelers no longer need to navigate uncertainty or last-minute alternatives. The process remains unchanged and can be completed via the official website:

Applicants simply fill in their information, pay the applicable fee, and receive confirmation, often within hours. It’s efficient, secure, and designed to get you on your way without delay.

Visa Fees and Special Exemptions

The standard visa fee is US$50 for most countries. However, Sri Lanka has extended generous offers and exemptions for select nations:
  • Free Visa for Nationals of: China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Japan (via ETA or Visa on Arrival).
  • No Visa Required for: Singapore, Maldives, Seychelles, and the Czech Republic.
  • SAARC Countries (excluding India): US$20 visa fee.
  • Children under 12 years: Free visa.

Nationals of Cameroon, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, and Ghana must apply through a Sri Lankan sponsor at the Department of Immigration & Emigration's Head Office.

A Step Forward for Tourism

The return of the ETA system marks another significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s post-pandemic tourism revival. It reflects the country’s dedication to rebuilding international confidence and encouraging exploration of its timeless natural beauty and cultural riches.

Travelers can now plan with ease, knowing they have simple, official access to this treasured island in the Indian Ocean. From the vibrant streets of Colombo to the tranquil beaches of Tangalle, the adventure is once again just a few clicks away.
