Mogo Trails combines with trails at Narooma, Tathra and Eden to create a whole-of-region mountain bike attraction that is expected draw 65,000 new visitors to the South Coast each year.
The NSW South Coast is fast becoming the go-to mountain bike destination with the first 70 kilometres of the Mogo Trails project having recently opened.
Eurobodalla Shire Council was awarded $5 million for the Mogo Trails project, through the jointly funded Australian and NSW Government’s Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund.
Combined with trails at Narooma, Tathra and Eden; a whole-of-region mountain bike attraction is expected draw 65,000 new visitors to the South Coast each year.
The impacts of the devastating 2019/20 Black Summer Bushfire still being felt. These trails will bring much-needed visitors and investment, helping to boost the local economy.
The eastern section of the trails will cater to riders of all abilities, from beginner white trails to advanced double black runs for thrill-seekers, with the entire Mogo Trails network expected to be open by early 2025.
Federal Minister for Emergency Management Jenny McAllister said: “We want to find ways to support local jobs and bring more visitors into the region after the devastating impact of the bushfires.
“The new Mogo trails will help promote the local economy and ensure landscapes in the South Coast region are easier to access and enjoy. With options for beginners to advanced riders, there are more reasons than ever to visit the beautiful South Coast.
“Recovery isn’t just about rebuilding homes and infrastructure it’s also about delivering projects that support communities to get back to what is important - connection, lifestyle and community.”
Federal Member for Gilmore Fiona Phillips MP said: "I’m proud to have advocated strongly for this project and I’m really thrilled to see the Mogo trails open. I can’t wait to get on my bike and test them out.
“What started out as the vision of a group of avid mountain bike enthusiasts is now a reality and we have a truly magnificent facility that will be enjoyed by local residents as well as visitors to our area.
“Riding the trails through our stunning forests offers a great way for families to enjoy the outdoors, and for the community to come together – no matter their mountain biking ability."
“Mogo was absolutely devastated by the Black Summer Bushfires and this is one of many projects that I have supported to help the community recover and thrive. This is a fantastic tourist attraction that will be a huge boost for local businesses and the Eurobodalla economy.”
Minister for Regional NSW Tara Moriarty said: “The Mogo Trails represent more than just a new recreational opportunity, they will be a vital economic driver for the region’s recovery.
“When the project is complete, a total of 130 kilometres of world-class mountain bike trails will generate new business opportunities and increase year-round tourism for the region.
“This project is an example of the Australian and NSW Government’s supporting the long-term recovery and development of the NSW South Coast, ensuring these communities have the infrastructure and services needed to grow and thrive.”
State Member for Bega, Dr Michael Holland said: “The Electorate of Bega is NSW’s next Mountain Biking hotspot. Opening the 70 kilometres of Mogo Trails adds to the existing beautiful trails at Narooma, Tathra, and Eden.
"It is great to see the Australian and New South Wales Governments combining to provide $5 million for the Mogo MTB Trail which includes a section of trails for riders of all abilities.
"The Mogo Trails will attract even more visitors to the beautiful Far South Coast, provide exercise and recreation for our locals, and support the local economy in its recovery from the 2019-2020 Black Summer Bushfires.”
