As the Mid-Autumn Festival unfolds across the Greater Mekong Sub-Region (GMS), it is an ideal time to reflect on the progress made in our tourism industry. This season, while traditionally tied to cultural celebrations, also marks significant strides in regional connectivity and cooperation.
A key development is the Fangchenggang-Dongxing Railway, which began operating in late 2023, linking south China’s Guangxi to the China-Vietnam border. This railway not only eases cross-border travel but also offers tourists a unique experience with stunning sea views and cultural performances, quickly becoming a popular regional attraction. Similarly, the China-Laos Railway has significantly boosted travel across borders, with millions of passengers benefiting from enhanced services.
In addition, Yunnan and Cambodia have collaborated to create a cultural corridor at Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, enhancing cross-border tourism. The China-Laos Railway continues to boost travel, with millions benefiting from improved services.
These initiatives reflect our collective efforts to strengthen regional ties and support sustainable tourism growth in the Mekong region.
