Cycling in Polonnaruwa in Sri Lanka

Cycling in Polonnaruwa can be done from your hotel with pick up and drop off at Habarana Sigiriya Dambulla or Polonnaruwa

You will start the bike ride at the entrance to the Polonnaruwa ruins and cycle through Polonnaruwa ancient city, near the “Parakrama Samudraya” water tank to what is known as the farmers village.

You will visit a traditional local home and experience a Sri Lankan local farmers’ hospitality with a cup of Ceylon tea or a king coconut drink referred to as “Thambili” by the locals…

After the refreshments you will meet your host the local farmer and you will walk with him in the paddy fields. If it is cultivation season then you can experience traditional farming methods with the locals which will be an experience of a lifetime…

After the farmers’ village you will cycle through paddy fields to the water tank once more and then arrive in an inland fishing area, where you can explore and experience local inland fishing by boat, you will learn the methods used by these local fishermen and get a glimpse of their living conditions.

Time permitting you might be able to do the mini canoeing ride with local fishermen as well, and if you are lucky enough you might spot wild elephants in the water tank.
