Female drag racer defends her title
Gina Bullians is currently the quickest female import drag racer in the world, a title she plans to defend at this year's Brisbane Jamboree at Willowbank over August 24-25. Bullians is the only female racer entered into Factory Xtreme, one of the most exciting categories in drag racing as the cars are full-bodied, purpose built, pro stock styled, turbocharged rear-wheel drives. Over 200 competitors from around Australia and New Zealand, including world record holders will compete in the Jamboree which includes the Shannon's Show and Sine, drifting, hot wheel stunts, bikini babes contests and kids entertainment.

Great Houses of Ipswich announce three new homes
On September 7 the National Trust will see three grand old homes in Ipswich open to the public. Woodlands of Marburg and the Duce House will open along with a Georgian ear brick terrace style home in Ipswich. The original home has fabric from the 1860's with additions evident from the 1880's. The name of the house and images are under embargo until August 9, but if you're interested in running a story contact the national trust. The Duce House was built in 1952 by Ipswich's most successful racehorse owners Norm and Norma Duce. It is located along Brisbane Rd, Woodlands of Marburg is a two-story plantation style mansion that was constructed between 1889 and 1891. Great Houses of Ipswich will run on September 7.

Tourism numbers soar
The heritage city on Brisbane's doorstep once again sees tourism numbers climb, with new Tourism Research Australia figures showing 1.8m visitors visited the region in the year ending March 2019, an increase of 28 per cent on the previous year seeing the fastest growth of any region in SEQ. Domestic overnight stays were up 46.5 per cent, while day trips were up 23.3 per cent and international visitors increased 33.4 per cent.
And 25 of our tourism operators were awarded TripAdvisor certificates of Excellence this year with six operators being recognised in the Trip Advisor Hall of Fame for more than five years of outstanding service excellence.

CMC Rocks announces dates for 2020
CMC Rocks is coming back to Ipswich next year, with numbers expected to increase. The country music festival will be held over Wednesday March 18 and 19 (for campers with exclusive concerts) and then from Friday March 20 to Sunday March 22 for the main events.

Lions stadium progresses
The Brisbane Lions have been given the green light to start construction on a $70 million AFL stadium in Springfield. At a special meeting of council recently, Interim Administrator Greg Chemello signed off on the dedication of the land at 60 Springfield Greenbank Arterial as open space and the transfer of the title to freehold without a trust.
