Visit historic downtown Rapid City to view the City of Presidents which is a series of life-size bronze statues of the USA’s past presidents spread throughout the streets. Can you name the one pictured above? Look out for a statue of the USA’s 44th President Barack Obama, which will be added to the City of Presidents this July.

Over the last few months, new art displays have replaced the former art that was located in downtown Sioux Falls, generating new interest in the public art shown across the city.

If you’re planning to travel to South Dakota’s historic town of Deadwood to explore the George S. Mickelson Trail or tour the Broken Boot Gold Mine, make sure you stop by Chubby Chipmunk Hand-Dipped Chocolate Shop. This quaint confectionary shop is the perfect place to buy a delicious box of handmade truffles or blocks of milk and dark chocolate. 1880 train
If you’re looking for a family adventure then go for a ride on the Black Hills Central Railroad 1880 Train,which takes passengers to and from Hilly City and Keystone in South Dakota. This two-hour, narrated round trip lets passengers view vistas of Harney Peak, mining encampments, and various forests, meadows and wooded canyons that the train passes by. Both children and adults will enjoy the ride as they look out for white tail deer, mule deer, wild turkey, wood chucks, mallard ducks and cottontail rabbits. One-way trips are also available so you can go gold panning at Dakota Stone Rock Shop and enjoy Prairie wines at Berry Winery in Hill City, or head to Keystone where you can go ziplining at Rushmore Tramway Adventures and explore the National Presidential Wax Museum.

Reptile Gardens in Rapid City is a fascinating local zoo and botanical garden that contains the largest collection of reptiles in the world according to the 2018 Guinness Book of World Records! This is a great destination for a family day out to spend in the company of giant tortoises, prairie dogs, deadly snakes, frogs, and even tropical orchids. You can also walk through the Sky Dome which is an indoors exhibit with a huge Australian saltwater crocodile, Komodo dragon, and exotic birds like macaw parrots.
