The Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort - the best place to stay in Orlando

Enjoying the pool
As a frequent visitor to Orlando and its ever growing and changing theme parks and attractions, I thought I knew what to expect from the multitude of hotels in the area. A nice place to rest your head and feet after long days walking the theme parks, but nothing too grand. However after a 2 night stay at the Grand Cypress Resort, my expectations were absolutely blown away.

Driving into the property I was instantly impressed at the size and layout, it has such a regal flare. This is not just any nice hotel, but it really lives up to the 'Grand' and 'Resort' in the name. Situated on 1500acres, the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort provides so much more than just a place to sleep. With 779 guest rooms including 48 suites, 281 kings and 415 double rooms you will be sure to find the perfect space for your needs.

Our double room
We stayed in a double room on the 14th floor, overlooking the outdoor pool and lake. We could even watch the Disney World fireworks from our balcony at night! The room was modern and clean, with a large plasma TV and spacious two-way bathroom. The beds were extremely comfortable and we had everything we needed for a very pleasant stay. However it is what you will find outside your room amongst the resort that will really keep you and the family entertained!

View from our balcony
I am yet to find another resort which provides so many outdoor activities, and manages to execute each one so well! Recreational activities include:
  • 45 holes of Jack Nicklaus Signature Design golf courses on property: Nine-hole North, nine-hole South, nine-hole East, and the 18-hole New Course
  • Grand Cypress Academy of Golf
  • Nine-hole pitch ’n’ putt course; rock climbing walls; game room
  • Half-acre outdoor pool with 12 waterfalls, two whirlpools, waterslide tower pavilion and water jet splash zone
  •  Hyatt StayFit gym offers state-of-the-art fitness center
  • Tennis and Racquet club with 12 tennis courts (five lighted), two outdoor racquetball courts and basketball court
  • Jogging paths and bicycling trails; bicycles and boats available
  • Marilyn Monroe Spa
  • Massage therapy; salon with facials, manicures and pedicures
  • White-sand beach and water sports on 21-acre Lake Windsong

Having fun on the Water bikes
During my two night stay I had time to test out some of the water sports on the lake. The stand up bikes were so much fun and a great way to head up the lake to see the beauty around the corner. A great form of exercise too! The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I wish I had more time to test out the canoes, kayaks and paddle boats as well, next time! The lake provides such a tranquil escape from the busy days around theme parks, and with a white sandy beach, umbrellas and beach chairs its the perfect place to relax and unwind. Our favourite at night however was the hot tubs, one even situated in the cave by the massive pool with waterfalls around! We would venture here each night to ease our aching muscles and enjoy each other's company.

Night time pool view
Another option at night is to sit around one of the many fire pits overlooking the pool and lake. Just ask the staff to light one for you, and why not roast some marshmallows while sitting around the blazing fire. Such an ambient atmosphere.

The fitness centre was the largest, most well equipped hotel gym I have seen in my extensive travels. I couldn't believe the state of the art technology, with all of the weights, exercise machines, stretch area and even water propelled rowing machines! Any fitness fanatic will be in heaven walking into this fitness centre.

Man-made beach
Children and adults alike will have hours of fun in the half-acre outdoor pool, with a water slide, splash zone, 12 waterfalls and 2 whirlpools to keep everyone entertained! Adults can also be satisfied with a multitude of beach cabanas, a pool-side bar and restaurant, and of course happy hour!

Inside the cave area of the pool
I was unable to test out any of the 5 restaurants or bars on site, but I hear they have award winning meals and service. With our early mornings off to Disneyworld, we found it very convenient having the market downstairs in the lobby serving Starbucks and healthy snacks for on the go.

Looking down inside the lobby
The lobby is very unique in that it is all open to the roof of the building, with a large waterfall feature and vibrant plants providing an instant oasis. The glass elevator provides a perfect view of the triangular shaped space with all the rooms and corridors on the perimeter of this large area. You can also overlook from these corridors. What an incredible first impression this provides!

All staff members were extremely friendly, professional and helpful. You could easily see they were there to make your stay the best it possibly could be. Overall I had a wonderful time at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort, and would highly recommend it as the best place to stay in Orlando whether you are there for business or pleasure.
The front entrance
My only regret is not having more time to experience all the other activities, restaurants or the day spa, but I hope to one day come back to what is now my favourite resort in Florida. Don't hesitate to book yourself in to experience the hospitality and have your expectations exceeded yourself!
