The Dorm Hostel Saigon |
On my recent stay there I found it to be incredibly comfortable and very peaceful, quite place to stay right in the middle of District 1 in Saigon. The welcome I received from the staff and other guests gave me a feeling of a community of like-minded people from all around the world. It was more like a boutique hotel rather than a hostel.

The Dorm is located at the 3rd and 4th floors of a colonial building opposite the Sheraton Hotel. The interior designers have created a modern minimalist space with a touch of vintage decoration. It also has an outdoor terrace with gardens to relax in,
I found the nice staff had excellent local knowledge and were able to provide information on tours, nightlife, and other services. They helped me find the hidden gems in Saigon, the most vibrant city in Vietnam. The friendly and helpful staff ensured I made the most of my trip to Saigon. They were very professional and friendly, and very well dressed.
18 inviting rooms are available for guests to choose. There are Single Rooms, Double Deluxe and Superior Rooms and 2 and 3 Bunk Rooms. I had a Single Room to myself, so I chose the bottom bunk for a comfortable nights sleep on the thick mattress. It was good that the bunks were made out of very solid timber, which meant they were very sturdy and did not wobble about. Even though hot outside, the room was very cool with the air-conditioner in the room that I could control the temperature of. A reading light and power outlets were nearby so that I could charge my phone and use my laptop. I made use of the free WiFi in the room and lounger area.
I was most impressed with the size and cleanliness of the shared modern bathroom. There was plenty of hot water in the showers and good sized vanity basins.
The location of The Dorm could not be better. It is less than half a kilometer to the popular landmarks of the Lucky Plaza, Saigon Opera House, Union Square, Sri Thenday Yuttha Panin Temple, Ho Chi Minh City Hall, People's Committee Building, Saigon Centre, Bitexco Financial Tower and the Vincom Shopping Center. It is less than 1 kilometer to Museum of Ho Chi Minh City, General Post Office, Notre Dame Church, Ben Thanh Market, Fine Arts Museum, Diamond Plaza and the Reunification Palace. I found it handy that all these famous tourist attractions were in walking distance from The Dorm. I managed to visit many of these during my stay there.

The Dorm provides a 24-hour front desk to welcome guest at any time of the day or night. The reception lobby up the stairs on the third floor is really nice with free lemon water and tea. There is comfortable seating, books and magazines to read, a computer to use and board games to play. This is the ideal space to relax in after a days walking around the city seeing the sights. It is the place to meet other guests from other countries around the world.

I enjoyed the simple breakfast that was supplied each morning. There was a choice of a Vietnamese and Western style breakfast, which were freshly cooked and very tasty.
People looking for a quite relaxing place to stay in central Saigon will find The Dorm to be the perfect choice.
