It is obvious a lot of thought has been given to its design and decor when the former TAFE building was transformed into the boutique 57 Hotel. Its stylish decor is inspired by the disco glamour of the famous New York nightclub Studio 54. The disco theme is accentuated by the light fittings, wall coverings, music, and even the coloured LED mirror ball lights in the lifts.
A choice of 92 modern guest rooms is on offer that vary in size from compact to large. These rooms have the apt names of Single, Twin Shoebox, Mini Disco Double, Dancing Queen, and The King. They all have there own bathroom.
The King was a great choice for me on my recent stay at the 57 Hotel. It was large, bright and clean. Being a corner room, plenty of natural daylight streamed in the room through the windows. The room was simple but stylish with modern artworks adorning the walls and an animal sculpture piece on the floor in the bathroom. It was just right for returning to after a busy day and night in Sydney.
The huge bed was very comfortable to sleep on. The stylish striped armchairs not only looked chic but were good to lounge on watching the large HDTV. A personal safe, mini fridge and tea and coffee making facilities were helpful inclusions in the room.
I liked the workstation with complimentary high-speed wireless internet. To keep up with today's technological age, an i-Pad was provided in my room, as in all the 57 Hotel rooms. Plenty of power points were in the room so that I could plug in all my chargers.
The weather was a bit cool during my stay in stay in Sydney, so I appreciated the ability to adjust the temperature of the room air-conditioning to a warmer setting. The good thing for me was that the control panel was easy to use, and the temperature did actually change.
The large glass-walled bathroom was spakling clean. It had an overhead rain shower, toilet and vanity basin with both a wall mirror and an adjustable magnifying mirror. Fluffy white towels and a range of complimentary Urban Skincare toiletries were provided.
The ground floor reception lobby has comfy black armchairs, oversized brass lamps, and moody lighting. There is a wow factor about its black, gold and copper colours and the wavy gold ceiling. A large Nespresso coffee machine can be made use of anytime day or night. There is an unlimited supply of water bottles and Minties. Each morning a simple breakfast selection of pastries, danishes, muffins, fruit and hot drinks is available in the lobby for all guests.
There is no gym on the premises, but guests can use the facilities of a nearby gym to work out.
The 57 Hotel not only offers guest rooms, they offer a range of experiences to elevate stays to a higher level. Apart from the room, other added bonuses are included in the Celebrations, Relaxation, Temptations, and Stay & See Experiences. Check out the hotel website to find out more about these Experiences.
I found the service at check-in to be prompt, friendly and efficient. The reception staff offered me helpful advice on what to do and see when I was in Sydney. I was particularly keen to go on a walk to explore the hidden alleyways, Victorian Terraces and charming heritage buildings of the surrounding area. They provided me with info on a self-guided walk and a paid walking tour.
The great thing about the 57 Hotel is its location. It is in the centre of Surry Hills, the cosmopolitan inner city suburb of Sydney. Surrounding the hotel are numerous trendy cafes, restaurants, wine bars and boutique shops. Nearby is the Capitol Theatre, to which I walked one evening to see a live show.
Hotel 57 is easily accessible by people travelling on public transport, as it is just a short walk from Central Station.
When I stayed at 57 Hotel I met people of various ages from different states in Australia who had come to Sydney for a variety of reasons. The 57 Hotel is an ideal place to stay in Sydney for the leisure or business traveller. Its stylish reception, lobby, lifts and rooms all contribute to a wonderful stay.
