Monty Python star heads up writers’ festival

Funding from Tourism WA has helped the Margaret Readers & Writers Festival secure renowned British comedian, actor, writer, television presenter and Monty Python member, Michael Palin as it’s headline speaker.

The Margaret River Readers & Writers Festival, which celebrates its ninth year in 2017, is the biggest regional literary event in Western Australia and aims to foster a love of literature and the arts within the community.

Tourism WA signed a three-year sponsorship deal with the event last November through its Regional Events Program, which is made possible by Royalties for Regions.

Since its inception in 2009, the event has grown from 600 attendees to now attracting about 5,000 people. Held from June 2-4, 2017, the festival will feature ticketed and free activities including solo and panel author discussions, debates, readings, lectures, workshops, question and answer sessions, music performances and poetry demonstrations.

Other literary talent also includes journalist Kerry O’Brien; writer, speaker and feminist thinker Clementine Ford along with Australian authors including Robert Drewe, Bruce Pascoe and Joan London.
