Hirosaki Snow Lantern Festival

Hirosaki City is widely known as one of the best places to visit in springtime Japan. However even in winter the city has its own charm, as shown by its Hirosaki Snow Lantern Festival.

Known as one of the Michinoku five big winter festivals, this event started from 1977 and has been the pride of local citizens until now.
From the main citadel of Hirosaki Castle facing the majestic Mt. Iwate, more than 300 units of kamakura (snow hut) will be on display and lit with candle, making a very romantic view at nighttime. Aside from the main attraction, visitors will also be treated to fireworks, art exhibitions and beautiful snow light-up.

Date: February 9- 12, 2017
Place: Hirosaki Park

Access: 30 minutes on foot from Hirosaki station, 10 minutes by taxi.
It takes about 15 minutes by bus from Hirosaki station to "Shiyakusho Mae", about 10 minutes on foot
