“The Hong Kong Observation Wheel will draw millions, both young and old at heart, to see the ever changing, new and truly unique perspectives on Hong Kong, bringing colour, vitality and life to truly catalyse the Hong Kong’s Central waterfront area and reconnect the community with their outstanding harbour.”
The Observation Wheel has 42 luxury gondolas (including one special VIP gondola) that are all equipped with high-tech safety and super-fast HKT Wi-Fi communication systems, with each gondola holding 8 comfortably-seated passengers.
Swiss AEX also formally announced HKT as the Hong Kong Observation Wheel’s official and exclusive partner for advertising and promotion activities within the Wheel area.
Mr. Alex Arena, Group Managing Director of HKT, said, “HKT has been serving the community for almost a century- indeed HKT itself is an icon in our community. We believe that HKT’s partnership with this new icon is particularly meaningful as it has always been our aim to enrich Hong Kong people’s lifestyle through continuous innovation and investment.
“When we saw the opportunity to participate in this project at the Wheel, we looked at how to put our technology to work. In these days of selfies and social networks, we decided to make Wi-Fi a special feature. So while visitors enjoy their ride on the Hong Kong Observation Wheel, they can share their pleasure with friends courtesy of our free Wi-Fi service.” Mr Arena added.
Under the partnership, HKT has the exclusive right to place advertisements and carry out promotions at the site.
Swiss AEX also welcomed cooperation with the numerous government bureaus and departments, including InvestHK, discussion with members of the Harbourfront Commission and councillors at the Central and Western District Council. “Safety is the number one priority of the Hong Kong Observation Wheel, and the best things in life are always worth waiting for, and we are proud to say we have now received every necessary licence and permit required from amongst others, the Electrical and Mechanical Services, Building, Fire Services, and Food and Environmental Hygiene departments”, welcomed Peirson-Smith.
The 60-metre Hong Kong Observation Wheel and soon to be new waterfront icon will offer an estimated 1 million passengers a year, both night and day panoramic views, in world-class style and comfort with air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter.
“The Hong Kong Observation Wheel is not just located in simply the best location in Hong Kong but is located on one of the best harbour front locations anywhere in the world, and we are deeply proud of this.” added Peirson-Smith.
Visitors will be able to ride the Hong Kong Observation Wheel between 11am-11pm throughout the year for the 15-20 minute journey. It is enviably accessible, surrounded by public transport facilities including the Outlying Island’s ferry piers, the Star ferry, Exchange Square’s bus and minibus interchange and Hong Kong MTR Station. It also has a safe and convenient taxi and private car drop-off zone for visitors and it is barrier-free for visitors with disabilities.
Swiss AEX also announced an official collaboration with its close waterfront neighbour, the Hong Kong Maritime Museum, to jointly promote their attractions. The spokesperson of Hong Kong Maritime Museum Mr Richard Wesley welcomed the collaboration, ‘We look forward to receiving our neighbour’s Hong Kong Observation Wheel visitors to our waterfront museum’.
The Wheel site is intended to attract the local population and international visitors, with 90% of the Wheel site area being accessible to the public, and will also include an event plaza with a variety of events to be held throughout the year for all ages, and with drinks, snacks and conveniences.
For those who wish to enjoy the Hong Kong Observation Wheel’s sparkling view, it will cost a pocket-friendly HK$100 for adults and HK$70 for persons with disability, children under 12 years, full-time students, and senior citizens.
