The Ttangkkeut Sunset Sunrise Festival is set to take place at Ttangkkeut Village in Jeollanam-do Province for two days, starting on New Year’s Eve and ending on New Year’s Day.

Marking its 17th year, the festival will present a series of programs in celebration of the year’s end and another year’s beginning. The celebration will begin on December 31st with a celebratory concert, followed by beacon tower lighting, traditional dance performance, lantern flying, and fireworks. The celebration will continue on January 1st with a gong ceremony, followed by tteokguk (rice cake soup) eating and postcard writing.

Meanwhile, Ttangkkeut Village in Haenam located on the southernmost tip of the Korean Peninsula is a site where both the sunrise and the sunset can be viewed in one place. Its last sunset of 2012 is expected at 5:33 p.m., and the first sunrise of 2013 at 7:39 a.m.
