CNN Travel Votes Kenya's Beaches Among the Top in Africa

CNN Travel has named Watamu and Diani among the best 25 Top Beach Destinations in Africa. Kenya's pristine Watamu and Diani beaches took second and third places as Best Beach in Africa. Sharm el-Sheikh beach of Egypt took first.

Watamu's white sand beaches and offshore coral formations, part of the Malindi Marine Reserve Park, is known for the best snorkelling and diving in East Africa. Watamu is also an important breeding ground for green and hawksbill turtles. This fishing village with many high end hotel options is a good base to explore Swahili ruins, national parks and exotic marine life.

Diani, the idyllic 20-kilometer stretch of palm-fringed beach is known for its coral reefs and black-and-white colobus monkeys. This coastal paradise has become one of Kenya's most popular beaches. Also minutes from Diani is Kaya Kinondo, one of the sacred forests of Mijikenda, named as Kenya's Fourth World Heritage Site.

After exploring Kenya's savannahs with an abundance of big game and timeless cultures, head to coast for untouched beaches, marine life, sea adventure and history.
