Where are Aussies travelling next? Demand to visit this Aussie travel destination up 400%

A new report from Mastercard reveals that Aussies are reigniting their love of international travel, and it’s even better news for local tourism, with domestic flight bookings growing by almost 700% since January 2022.Bookings to Bali are up almost 400% in the last two months. New Zealand also proved popular, with flights across the Tasman increasing by almost 200% since January; Mastercard’s latest ‘Travel 2022: Trends and Transitions’ report revealed.Top Australia figures from the report include: 

  • The report found Australia was the second most popular travel destination for APAC travellers. APAC travellers also ranked Singapore (#3), UK (#4) and Canada (#5)
  • Domestic flight bookings up almost 700% since January 2022 
  • Bookings to Indonesia up close to 400% in the last two months as it continues to be a much-loved destination for Aussies
  • Flight bookings to New Zealand have increased almost 200% since Jan 22
  • Aussie travellers are spending more on experiences than ‘things’ in Australia by two percentage points, aligned with the global findings revealing spending on experiences is roughly 34% above 2019 levels
