The Orange Glow of Lanterns on Kyoto’s Kamogawa River in Japan

Kyoto’s Kamogawa River is the city’s scenic waterway that is popular with visitors throughout the day, but on summer nights from the beginning of May to the end of September, you can have dinner al fresco on the large platforms overlooking the river.

The “Kamogawa Nouryou-Yuka” is an Edo-era tradition, when restaurants and tea shops that line the river provided spaces to eat and drink with a scenic night view.

Enjoy your meal by the orange glow of lanterns reflected on the river’s surface for a timeless romantic memory of Kyoto.
