Amazing Camino Coastal Routes for Summer

Pilgrims from all corners of the the world walk or cycle to Santiago de Compostela each year, taking many different routes to Santiago de Compostela.

While over 60% of Camino pilgrims choose the Camino Frances, there are many more trails to discover, all of them with their unique history, heritage and scenery. These are four amazing Camino coastal routes perfect for the Summer months.

Pack your walking shoes and your swimming gear! We are off…

TO THE END OF THE WORLD AND BACK
This is a classic Camino from Santiago de Compostela to Cape Fisterra and Muxia, on the Atlantic Coast of Galicia. You can either walk from Santiago or head towards Santiago instead. Roman settlers believed Fisterra to be the 'end of the world' and the area is not only home to fantastic seafood and beaches but also fascinating legends and pre-Christian traditions.

Tip: There are many great Summer festivals in the area. In July for instance you can catch the beach party in Fisterra while August is time to celebrate the gastronomic delights of the razor clam food festival.

FROM PORTO TO SANTIAGO ON TWO WHEELS
Cycling the Camino Portugues from Porto along the coast you will experience two countries in one trip: set off from pretty Porto home of Port wine and colourful tiled buildings and take the road less travelled stopping along charming seaside towns and coastal villages on the Atlantic.

Tip: Catch the lively Sao Joao festivities in Porto in late June before setting off.

Forest trails, sandy strands and plenty of history to be discovered in this region famous for its wine and shellfish.

Tip: Explore the historic town of Cambados, capital of AlbariƱo white wine and hosting one of the first wine museums in Spain.

CAMINO DEL NORTE

Tip: Experience the 'Battle of the flowers' in Laredo (last Friday in August) featuring floats with spectacular sculptures made of flowers. A colourful festival that is over 100 years old.
