Rydges Southbank Convention Centre Townsville Re-Opens Following Upgrade

Bringing a new standard in conferences and events to Townsville, Rydges Southbank has completed a renovation of its Convention Centre, featuring 4 new-look conference and event spaces.

The Rydges Southbank Conference Centre has been reimagined by Sydney architecture and design firm, Scott Carver, using subtle cues and sophisticated references to the colonial style of the building and the history of the region. New design elements have been installed, including feature wall lights and chandeliers, refinished timber and contemporary furniture in the pre-function space and outdoor terrace.

The Convention Centre offers a selection of flexible spaces including joint rooms, balconies, a stunning new Foyer and Ballroom as well we various Boardrooms, allowing Rydges to tailor events to the specific needs of guests, from corporate events and weddings to relaxed cocktail parties.

Rydges Southbank Townsville General Manager, Stephen Ratcliffe said, “Following an investment in substantial upgrades, we are very pleased to unveil the new Rydges Southbank Convention Centre, which will provide state-of-the-art conferencing facilities for local and interstate guests alike. We can accommodate all event requirements, from board meetings to large conferences and cocktail parties in the Grand Ballroom.”

The Grand Ballroom has been transformed into a modern and elegant event space, accommodating up to 500 people, brightened with white panelled walls, feature wall lighting and a breathtaking grand chandelier.

The Foyer reflects a tropical oasis with floor to ceiling timber window frames to bring the outdoors in, and polished timber flooring set against a heritage fireplace taking pride of place.

For smaller meetings and events, the Convention Centre's meeting rooms provide a quiet space for small groups of up to 7 people.

New technology has also been installed, including AV equipment and projection screens as well as free Wi-Fi throughout the entire venue.

Dining options include the hotel's signature restaurant Southbank Bar & Grill, led by Executive Chef James Quinn, which complements the Food and Beverage packages available at the Convention Centre. New menus will be released in the coming weeks to coincide with the re-opening.

The adjoining hotel, Rydges Southbank, offers 98 modern, stylish rooms for event guests choosing to extend their stay, with a 24-hour reception, pool and spa as well as free onsite parking.
