What's New in Melbourne? May 2019

Liminal
Visitors can’t judge this latest venture from the Mulberry Group by its location in the foyer of an office building in Melbourne’s city on Collins St. From the team behind legendary cafes Higher Ground, Top Paddock and The Kettle Black, Liminal is a café, market place, wine store and event space. Diners can enjoy delicious food that reflects the seasonality and goodness of the produce sourced from local small-scale growers and producers. Along with good food, the wine store will feature a great range of wine made by producers that value sustainability as much as we do and to support female producers. Each wine is available to take home or enjoy in house. Ground Floor, 161 Collins St, Melbourne, Victoria, 3000. 0403 251 678.

Slice Shop Pizza
Footscray’s culinary credentials have received another boost with the arrival of Slice Shop Pizza. Its simple exterior and plain fit out doesn’t reflect the New York-style pizza by the slice from the team behind Burn City Smokers, who continue their American inspired ventures. Visitors can enjoy large and thin pizza slices in seven flavours, including 14-hour smoked brisket, tomato, mozzarella and spring onion. Pizza by the pie or slice is only available takeaway. 101 Nicholson Street Mall, Footscray, Victoria, 3011. 0417 112 604.

EZARD
This Flinders Lane venue may not be new but the acclaimed EZARD has undergone a significant overhaul of the menu and look. Visitors, once they find the restaurant in their location below the popular eat street, will be greeted by the new dimly lit space refurbished by Studio Round and a radically transformed offering. Despite the new style, the restaurant has maintained its fine dining quality that has built a reputation as one of the city’s most respected dining institutions since it opened in 1999. The introduction of a 5-course tasting menu, a complete upgrade on key signature menu items that have been present for 19 years, dedicated vegan and vegetarian tasting menu options and a multi-level wine pairing experience for all tasting menus to name a few; have all played a part in capturing the new essence of EZARD. 187 Flinders Lane, Melbourne, Victoria, 3000. Carringbush Hotel

This Abbotsford institution has been transformed with a contemporary fit out, pouring 30 taps of craft beer and wine, and an entirely meat-free menu. The opaque windows and tiny rooms have been removed, creating a light-filled open dining and bar space. The beer selection is hyper-local, as much as possible is on tap and the menu, whilst confronting to some old time locals, has something for everyone on it, even those usually drawn to a classic chicken parma or steak. 228 Langridge St, Abbotsford VIC 3067.
