With the theme of ‘Transforming Travel – Transforming Lives’, the MTF 2018 is held under collaboration of the Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office (MTCO), the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand (MoTS), and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). The Forum is taking on a new approach in that conference sessions will be held together with local communities in their villages. This way the local people can become involved in this annual event and as a result, the discussions and exchange of ideas that take place will be enriched and the overall experience enhanced.
Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor, said: “We are delighted to support this year’s MTF 2018, we want to help participants live the theme. As such the Forum’s eight thematic sessions will be conducted in eight ethnic communities, thus opening the way for valuable interaction between the MTF delegates and the people of Nakhon Phanom.”
The programme for the MTF 2018 comprises three key parts. There is a ‘Transforming Travel’ session on 27 June with discussions ranging from Buddhist tourism to responsible tourism, and the potential for transforming travel and people’s lives. On 28 June, there are mini keynote presentations from senior executives representing different travel sectors in the morning, followed by thematic sessions hosted by local communities in the afternoon.
In addition, there are two integrated side events including the Mekong Innovative Startups in Tourism Conference and the inaugural Mekong Mini Movie Festival.
The MTF 2018 will conclude with a post tour on 29 June, featuring visits to Nakhon Phanom’s important Buddhist landmarks, Wat Phra That Phanom, and sightseeing of the province’s town centre.
