The Ministry of Industry has launched a project to establish an Automotive and Tyre Testing, Research and Innovation Center, which will help attract investments to the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).
The groundbreaking ceremony of this center took place on 1 June 2018, with Permanent Secretary for Industry Pasu Loharjun presiding over the ceremony. The center is the first of its kind in Asia.
It is located on an area of about 494 acres at Lat Krathing Community Forest in Sanam Chai Khet district, Chachoengsao province. It aims to develop the automotive industry into a Super Cluster and serve as a learning and technology transfer center.
With this center, entrepreneurs in the manufacturing of automobiles and automotive parts will be able to have their products tested and certified. This will save their time and money in business operation, as they will not have to send their products to be tested and certified overseas.
Moreover, the Automotive and Tyre Testing, Research and Innovation Center will also attract foreign investors to invest in rubber processing in Thailand. It is expected that construction of the project will be completed in 2020, when the center is ready to offer services.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha congratulated the Ministry of Industry for its groundbreaking ceremony of the Automotive and Tyre Testing, Research and Innovation Center. The Prime Minister stated that the automotive industry is one of the S-Curve industries, which is Thailand’s strength.
He hoped that Thai entrepreneurs and workers would make most use of this center for skill development to enhance the country’s competitiveness.
