Indian Buddhist Culture Day to take place in Vinh Phuc

The first Buddhist Festival of India in
Vietnam was held in Bac Ninh in 2014
The second Indian Buddhist Culture Day will be held from March 16-19 at Thien An Pagoda in Dai Dinh Commune, Tam Dao District, the northern province of Vinh Phuc.

The information was released by Most Venerable Thich Duc Thien, General Secretary of the Executive Council of the Buddhist Sangha of Viet Nam (BSV), at a press conference in Ha Noi on March 13.

The event is part of people friendly activities during 2017 to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Viet Nam-India diplomatic relations (January 7, 1972-2017) and 10th anniversary of Viet Nam-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (2007-2017).

During the event, Vietnamese people and visitors will have a chance to learn more about the special Buddhist rituals practiced by Gyalwang Drukpa, the head of the Drukpa lineage and Drukpa sangha, along with nearly 100 Indian monks and nuns.

Gyalwang Drukpa will present the BSV with a brocade picture of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, which was embroidered by 40 Indian artisans. The 11.7mx16m picture was recognised by Vietkings Organisation as the largest embroidered picture of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva in Viet Nam.

The first Indian Buddhist Culture Day in Viet Nam was held successfully in 2014 at Phat Tich Pagoda in Tien Du District, Bac Ninh Province.

Over the years, the BSV has held numerous diplomatic activities to enhance its relations with Buddhist organisations in India, contributing to strengthening the friendship between the two countries.
