Dragon Boat Festival 2017 to be celebrated in May

Also known as Duanyang Festival, Wuri Festival, and May Festival, the 2017 Dragon Boat Festival will be celebrated on May 5, based on the lunar calendar.

Originating in China, Dragon Boat Festival was initially the festival in which people prayed for removing disease and preventing illness. 

Later, when patriotic poet Qu Yuan was said to die on this day, it became a traditional festival to remember Qu Yuan. 

Folk customs are held for memorizing the talented official of Chu State, Qu Yuan, who was famous for his patriotism and talents.

Dragon Boat Festival features folk customs such as eating Zongzi, dragon boat racing, and drinking realgar wine.
