TFE Hotels will take over management this month of one of Brisbane's most renowned and highly rated luxury hotels, the beautiful Gambaro Hotel on chic Caxton Street in Petrie Terrace, the entertainment precinct close to the city centre. This contemporary design hotel and with its eponymous restaurant, a 60-year institution in Brisbane run by the Gambaro family, and its second restaurant, Australia's best for steak, Black Hide Steakhouse, is the next strategic addition to the TFE Hotels Collection portfolio, fitting perfectly with its brand architecture.
TFE Hotels Collection represents beautiful, one-of-a-kind properties in Australia, each offering its own story and provenance, living and breathing its location, where engaging teams deliver memorable experiences that hallmark each guest's stay. The first to open was the historic Art Deco-designed Hotel Kurrajong Canberra, which opened in 2014, and the third, The Calile, will open next year in Fortitude Valley.
Gambaro Hotel has 68 rooms over four levels, each with plush furnishings in warm inviting tones and most featuring balconies, some overlooking the restored Queenslander houses of hilly inner-city Paddington, with its cool cafes and bars. A ground-floor marble lobby is marked by a dazzling light installation that rises four metres in a central atrium, composed of pretty interlocking gold sculptured fish, a tribute to the Gambaro's seafood restaurant heritage.
Adjoining is MG Bar, the function centre and Gambaro Seafood Restaurant, renowned for its mud crab and crayfish dishes, while Black Hide Steakhouse is just across the street. The hotel is just a short walk from Suncorp Stadium, Queen Street Mall, Queensland Museum and Science centre, Gallery of Modern Art, and Queensland Performing Arts Centre.
TFE Hotels CEO Rachel Argaman said she was thrilled to add the five-star luxury property with such a remarkable reputation for quality and luxury to the TFE Hotels Collection brand. She said it marked a significant point in the enormous expansion TFE Hotels was embarking on in the next five years.
“This is an extraordinary hotel and we are really proud to add it to our collection, with its reputation for excellence and superior service,” she said. “It marks the start of the expansion plans that will progress in 2017. We have a remarkable 17 new hotels in the pipeline, such as the spectacular Adina Apartment Hotel which will open on the former Pentridge Prison site: an impressive castle-like building with an extraordinary history that has captured the nation's imagination for centuries.
“We have just opened two new hotels in Nuremburg and Frankfurt, Germany, and will open new Adina Apartment Hotels in Fremantle, Sydney's CBD and Macquarie Park, as well as a handful of others we are about to announce soon. We will also open four new Vibe Hotels, including one in Hobart and one in North Sydney. This year and beyond will be exciting for TFE Hotels, and we have a number of extraordinary projects that will give us the platform for growth and scale.”
Gambaro Hotel was designed by Hirsch Bedner Associates and its classically understated and contemporary design has helped the venue gain significant praise from the press and accolades as a luxury offering since it opened in late May 2014. The legacy of its owners, the Gambaro family, began in 1953 when the late Giovanbaptista Gambaro moved to Australia from his hometown in Italy and created what later became one of Brisbane's finest seafood restaurants on Caxton Street in inner city Brisbane. This soon grew to encompass the MG Bar and a 300-seat banquet style function centre, the newly opened Black Hide Steakhouse (recently crowned best Australian steak house 2016), and, of course, the Gambaro Hotel. While TFE Hotels will run the hotel component, the Gambaro family will continue to maintain the high tradition of running one of Brisbane's finest bar, restaurant and function centres.
John Gambaro said the hotel's new management would connect it to a sophisticated global distribution system and team of dedicated hoteliers with more than 50 years management experience.
“We are looking forward to leveraging TFE Hotels' scale as a recognised hotel management company and brand, and its capabilities for national distribution, which will allow us to focus on what we do best, which is create exceptional restaurant experiences,” he said.
