Snap a Selfie With Qantas' Instameet Series

In celebration of 95 years of flying, Qantas is hosting its first and one of Australia's largest series of Instameets to capture what #FeelsLikeHome to different Australians and promote our country on Instagram.

An Instameet is where people gather in a pre-determined place, at a set time, to take photos and upload them to Instagram. This is a phenomenon that was created organically by the Instagram community and now occurs regularly across the world.

Open to all social media enthusiasts and hosted by well-known Australian photographers on Instagram, 18 Instagram meet ups (Instameets) will span nine different cities over nine days, capturing Australia's iconic sights, people and activities through original and inspirational images.

The events will include memorable experiences and unique photo opportunities from selfies with quokkas off the coast of Perth, camel tours in the red centre to private viewings at MONA in Hobart, culminating on Sydney Harbour with a Qantas A330 aircraft fly over.

Qantas Group Executive Brand, Marketing & Corporate Affairs Olivia Wirth said the Qantas Instameet series provided a unique opportunity to promote Australia in an innovative way and inspire more travellers to experience the beauty of our country.

“We are really excited to partner with Instagram and host our very first Instameet series. Our aim is to promote Australia's magnificence to the world through images and encourage more travellers to see Australia on Qantas' domestic network – and there's no better real-time platform than Instagram to engage with a community of passionate and talented photographers,” said Ms Wirth.

“Whether Instagrammers have 10 or 10,000 followers, we want everyone to get involved in their local area and share an image of what #FeelsLikeHome means to them,” she said.

Instagram Brand Development Lead, Australia and New Zealand Sophie Blachford said Qantas had proven to be an innovator and a key partnership for Instagram in Australia.

“With a global community of 400 million strong, brands like Qantas are valued contributors capturing and sharing their own moments,” said Ms Blachford.

“We are extremely excited to celebrate this special occasion with Qantas. Our core values that make us who we are today are about inspiring creativity and creating sense of community, so we are looking forward to seeing each city's unique perspective brought to life visually through what Feels Like Home to different locals,” said Ms Blackford.

Each city will host two events and Instagrammers are encouraged to register online from today. The Instameet series begins in Perth on 7th November, travelling to Brisbane, Uluru, Hobart, Darwin, Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide and finishing in Sydney on 15th November.
